Life Coaching 101

Discovery How Life Coaching Can CHANGE Your LIFE!

I absolutely believe that people, unless coached, never reach their maximum capabilities.” – Bob Mardelli

What Is Life Coaching?

Wikipedia defines coaching as, “coaching is a training or development process via which an individual is supported while achieving a specific personal or professional competence result or goal. The individual receiving coaching may be referred to as coachee. Occasionally, the term coaching may be applied to an informal relationship between two individuals where one has greater experience and expertise than the other and offers advice and guidance as the other goes through a learning process, but coaching differs from mentoring by focusing upon competence specifics, as opposed to general overall development.

Some coaches use a style in which they ask questions and offer opportunities that will challenge the coachee to find answers from within him/herself. This facilitates the learner to discover answers and new ways of being based on their values, preferences and unique perspectives.”

I use a form of life coaching called Co-Active Coaching. It is co-active because it requires the active participation and collaboration of ME and YOU. Together, we work collaboratively to reach your goals, dreams and desires.

“Life coaching is all about opening up to infinite possibilities. It allows you to really dig deep and find what you really want out of life.  I then assist you in getting to your destination.”  Michael Brian Ivy

In co-active coaching, the focus is all on you. It offers you a level of support and encouragement that you may not get in your everyday life.

As your coach, I help you find your way and stay the course despite any obstacles that may come up. My goal is to aide you in removing any barriers that keep you from living the life you want.

As your coach, I not only listen to your words but focus on the meaning behind them.

As your coach, I listen to what is deep within you, even when you cannot hear it yourself. I allow your internal voice to be expressed.

As your coach, I hold you accountable and keep you moving toward your goals, dreams and desires.

As your coach, I focus on the big picture but also focus attention on goals to help you reach your desired results.

I hold sacred space for your dreams and goals to become a reality, free of judgment.

I welcome your dreams.

I welcome your vulnerability.

I welcome your emotion.

I welcome your success.

What Life Coaching Is Not?

Many mistake coaching for counseling, consulting and mentoring. In fact, many coaches cross the blurred line into counseling and attempt to address underlying issue and pathologies. While this may naturally happen during the coaching process, it is not the focus of coaching.

So what are the differences? Well, in counseling, many times, the therapist looks at the past for why you are behaving or experiencing something here and now. In coaching, we may briefly examine the past but the focus is on the here and now. Counseling, in many ways focuses on the past. Coaching focuses on the future.

In counseling, much emphasis is put on how you are feeling and why. The goal is to make you feel better and increase your quality of life while giving you insight into why you may be experiencing symptoms. In coaching, feelings and emotions are involved but our goal is to assist you in moving forward despite what has happened to you in your past. We believe that you are not a product of your past. We believe you can learn the tools you need to thrive. Our goal in coaching is to help propel you forward and recover successfully.
